An Authentic Learning Experience for Teachers & Administrators
The Intensive Spanish for Spanish teachers and ESL teachers is designed to supplement and perfect the Spanish language skills of teachers who interact with native-Spanish-speaking students, or for teachers who want to teach more about Mexican culture and history. Our program for educators focuses on the study and practice of specialized vocabulary for use in, and out, of the classroom. The aim is to provide this vocabulary for both formal and informal conversation in communicative contexts related to specific content area.
Every summer, ASLI offers courses on a variety of topics of interest for educators who want to bring the culture of Mexico into their classrooms. The activities include classes, readings, foods, art, music, and field study excursions.
Special courses are offered for teachers who have been teaching other languages and who are now being asked to teach Spanish language classes.
Better Serve Your Spanish-speaking Students
Most educators are aware of the debate in education across the United States about using only English in the classroom, or about whether it is appropriate to teach children in their home language. Regardless of how this debate is resolved, a teacher who hopes to reach students in the most positive way possible will want to learn the basics (and probably more) of the home language of her or his students.
The Spanish Language Institute offers special programming for teachers, which includes basic Spanish classes, additional vocabulary classes for educators and administrators, as well as guided professional visits to schools and other types of educational centers in Cuernavaca. (If you want a professional visit to a school in Mexico, make sure you come before schools close for the summer!)
Improve What You Teach
Many teachers who come to our language school are interested in teaching about the culture and history of Mexico. We are happy to help teachers develop Mexican resources and tools to use in their classrooms. Consider that information gained in Spanish language classes and on field trips to actual sites can spark and develop ideas about how this information can be best delivered in the classroom.
Benefit From Our Network
Spanish Language Institute has agreements with many school systems in the United States, including some of the largest school districts in the country.
Both the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) offer scholarships to language teachers who want to study at ASLI Spanish Language Institute. CLTA

Group Programs for Educators
We work with many educators who want to return and bring a group of teachers or students with them. We would be delighted to work with you if you are interested in developing a program for a group of teachers from your school system or professional education association. No two group programs are alike, each one including special educational activities.
We will help you develop a fee structure that will make your own study program very low in cost. And don’t forget that any study program of two or more weeks can be considered for academic credit, graduate or undergraduate.
